Kate’s Family

Kate grew up in a military family as the oldest of five children. Her father, a U.S. Army radiologist, and her mother, a clinical social worker, instilled in her a strong sense of service, faith, and resilience. The family moved 16 times during Kate’s childhood, living on bases across the U.S. and spending five formative years in Bann, Germany during the Gulf War. Kate’s siblings are spread across the globe—from West Virginia to Dubai—and each carries their own unique path and perspective.

Kate’s Journey

Kate’s journey into nursing began in Salt Lake City, where she earned her LPN at Clover Park Technical College, later becoming a registered nurse. Her work took her to institutions like Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, and Intermountain Medical Center (IMC), where she served in trauma and surgical ICUs. Through these experiences, Kate developed not only clinical expertise but also a deep understanding of the systemic gaps in healthcare that now inform a large portion of her policy vision.

Kate’s Background

While working at IMC in Utah, Kate met her husband, Jeb, a nephrologist with a Master’s in Clinical Investigation. They married in 2010 and have since lived in North Carolina, Tennessee, Colorado, Utah, and now Georgia. Along the way, they grew their family—welcoming their eldest son Gus in 2012, daughter Jane in 2016, and son Hank in 2018. Now living in Avondale Estates, Kate and Jeb are raising their children just seven houses away from her parents. Jeb currently works in medical affairs and volunteers at a local free clinic.
